GOOD TO KNOW

A NOTE FROM G

A NOTE FROM G

Welcome to Color Baggage

There's unconditional color baggage that lives inside you, cravings and attractions for colors you deeply love because they bring you so much joy. Your bag is custom, filled with colorful memories and experiences no one else has lived but you. This makes the color expert of your life and the palette you seek. This gift keeps on giving—reconnecting us to the world around us, especially when we lose sight of who we are, love, and want to go.

Color Baggage makes you the Color Baggage Expert of your life by using Color Theory and its wheel as a vehicle of enlightenment, and a bucket of paint is a creative tool of transformation that synchronizes homes with shades of belonging, chemistry, and connection. The color harmonies will be different, but the end result will be the same. Where harmony rules, growth, creativity, and possibility are sure to follow, magnetizing more of the same.

Yours, G

WALLPAPER STORY

Gretchen Schauffler is a Puerto Rican transplant deeply rooted in the Pacific Northwest. She combines the nature of color with memories, experiences, and spiritual wisdom to make her wallpaper designs. Her motifs honor Mother Nature and totem animals that have presented themselves to support her along her journey. She cloaks their symbolism, as a blanket or feature wall, not only as a design element but as a source of beauty, empowerment, and inspiration.

Gretchen began to make her patterns with an image of a mythological seed, which she affectionately named  the pinekapple — A cross between a tropical pineapple and a northwest pinecone.

Pinecones protect the naked seeds of mighty trees. Pineapple seeds are difficult to grow and must be carefully tended to until they reach maturity. These soulful symbols of nurture and protection helped her plant new ideas and creatively thrive.

The new roots bore beautiful unexpected, surprising, and thought-provoking patterns that not only delight but also require a deeper look and a meaningful conversation.

WORTH THE WAIT

Shipping takes 7-10 days

Before Your Begin

Before installing it, do so in a cool, dry place if you plan to store your wallpaper. Each panel has extra material at the top and bottom (referred to as “bleed”).  Dry-assemble panels first (in the sequence) to pre-plan and view your layout. The wall must be clean and relatively smooth. Painted drywall is ideal for a flawless installation. As long as the adhesive remains clean, lift and reapply our peel-and-stick panels many times.

Warnings

Do not let the peel-and-stick backing stick to itself. The wallpaper will stretch and get ruined when you try to pry it apart. Fingerprints, dirt, and debris will affect the adhesive from sticking properly. Do not use on top of brick, cinderblock, highly-textured walls, or unpainted drywall. Remember, most not all ceilings and walls are perfectly straight. You may have to align your pattern to a level or plumb line.

Gravity Is Your Ally

Adjust the wallpaper panels straight by adjusting the overlap on the ceiling and letting the weight of the wallpaper hang straight before you peel off the entire backing. See steps

PencilLadderMasking tape. Utility knife. Straight edgeLevel/plumbline

Steps

Work right to left on your wall. Measure your panel width from the left corner and draw a straight line. You will align and adjust your panel straight between the corner and your marked line to ensure the straight alignment of your pattern.Peel off the top first inch of your wallpaper panel and overlap it on the ceiling above your wall. Let the panel hang and adjust at the top until it’s straight. Secure panel with pin-cushions at the top and bottom to view alignment and stabilize. Peel off the rest of the backing from the top down.Align and overlap the next panel by ½ inch to avoid a shrinkage seam due to room temperature shifts.Repeat this process until all panels are installed.Cut off excess bleed at top and bottom.

Hallelujah

Panels can be lifted and reapplied many times as long as the adhesive remains clean.

Tips

Do not force the paper, pull or stretch the product, or the pattern will not align. After final placement, use a dry paint roller or a soft towel to release air bubbles.Dust or wipe clean with a slightly damp cloth.

ABOUT COLOR BAGGAGE

Gretchen's professional success story as a Boricua Latina entrepreneur began when she used her educational experience in Art Therapy, Architecture, Fashion Design, and Graphic Design to create a powerhouse cult brand called Devine Color, Color Therapy From The Northwest, in 2001.

Devine took the paint industry by storm with a feminist perspective, putting women in charge of their own paint color experiences with color tools and formulas fashioned after the cosmetic industry, thus changing how paint companies market and sell paint today.

Her brand was acquired nine years later by Valspar Paint, where she held the position as a brand consultant. Gretchen walked away with a five-year non-compete in the paint industry in 2015, ending her chapter with Devine Color.

A lot happened in those five years.

Gretchen began practicing mediation, which opened new channels of creativity and possibility.

She became a board member of the Alzheimer's Association, Oregon Chapter . She developed a color protocol called Color With Benefits focusing on using color in meaningful ways to benefit memory, dementia patients, and caregivers. She also used it to coordinate the Oregon Ronald McDonald Houses in Oregon.

In 2018 Gretchen launched DIP Design Is Personal providing high-quality, stylish, customizable DIY home improvement products. Three years later, DIP Design Is Personal became a 5-star review DIY home improvement brand. DIP is sold online at designispersonal.com and across all major U.S. retailers, including Target, Wayfair, Home Depot, Lowes, and Amazon.

The end of her non-compete in 2020 coincided with the exiting of her Second Saturn Return, an earth-quaking global pandemic, and catalytic social events.

She spent the last several years unpacking and repacking her bag, and adding new cravings, attractions, and experiences that created Color Baggage.

Gretchen’s Devine Color journey taught her how to use the rainbow and a bucket of paint to synchronize diverse elements in a home and harmonize them with color. Color Baggage is the leg of the journey that taught her how to harmonize her life by becoming the rainbow itself and using the same principles to trust in meaningful synchronicity; remarkable memories, experiences, and desires with timelines of their own that trigger us and our intuition into taking leaps of faith or decisive action and move forward confidently towards our potential. Making our dreams real in unexpected ways and real journeys more exciting than their destinations.
