The Scoop on Satin Finishes

By Gretchen Schauffler

CB Luscious Quiana-Gloss Finish™ isn't just a paint finish — it's a reference to a cultural moment. Named for Qiana, the silky synthetic fabric that owned the disco era, this satin finish does to your surfaces what Qiana did to a dance floor: it catches the light and gives it back to the room in the most flattering, generous way.

At 60% light reflection, it's the finish that flatters without showing off. Run it across wood moldings and watch the architecture wake up. Apply it to cabinetry and your kitchen becomes a room with presence. Put it on a door and suddenly the door is a statement.

This finish is inspired by vintage glamour, shoeshine, and the best night of your life. Not every surface needs this — but the ones that do will tell you. They've been waiting.

Curing Time for Satin Finishes

  • Touch dry: 2+ hours

  • Re-coat: 6+ hours

  • Full cure: 14–30 days

  • Full hardness (before placing objects or hanging items): 5–10 days

Ideal curing conditions:

  • Temperature: 60°F–80°F (16°C–26°C)

  • Humidity: 50–70% relative humidity

  • Ventilation: good airflow throughout

  • Note: porous surfaces cure faster; non-porous surfaces take longer to fully harden

Why Satin Works

  • More durable and easier to clean than matte

  • Moderate light reflection that flatters color without overpowering it

  • Excellent for high-traffic areas and moisture-prone spaces

  • Better long-term performance than flat finishes

What to know going in:

  • Shows surface imperfections more than matte — prep your walls first

  • Touch-ups can be more visible, so always keep paint from your finish batch

  • Requires careful, even application to avoid lap marks

Curious about the name? There's a whole story behind it.
