The Original Seed: Pinekapple
Tracing her transplanting roots from Puerto Rico to Portland, Oregon, Schauffler began making wallpaper patterns with an image of a mythological seed she named the "Pinekapple" – a cross between a tropical pineapple and a Northwest pinecone. Pinecones protect the naked seeds of mighty trees, while pineapple seeds are difficult to grow and must be carefully tended until maturity. Inspired by traditional wallpaper motifs and the memories of women who grew up loving to explore wallpaper books with their mothers, Schauffler grafted these soulful symbols of nurture and protection into her Colorwright™ wallpaper designs.
